Karategi is the formal Japanese name for the traditional uniform used for Karate practice and competition. A karategi is somewhat similar to a judogi as it shares a common origin; however, the material and cut of the uniform is generally much lighter and looser fitting.

Students wear a white or black Gi to Karate classes, unless directed otherwise. The pants should be hemmed, not rolled up. If you hem the arms, they must fall between the elbow and wrist. Your Gi should be clean and pressed with creases in the front of the pants.
